  • SC orders restoration of Congress Government in Arunachal Pradesh
  • A Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court on Wednesday unanimously quashed (rejected as invalid) Arunachal Pradesh Governor P. Rajkhowa’s order to advance the Assembly session from January 14, 2016 to December 16, 2015.

    • Sept, 2015: J.P. Rajkhowa becomes Governor of Arunachal Pradesh.
    • Nov, 2015: 21 Congress MLA rebel against CM.

  • Importance: The first time the apex court used its powers of judicial review to restore a previous government(Tuki’s Gov) when its successor government(Pul’s Gov) is still in place.
  • The Union Government has notified the UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) Rules, 2016 that give legal status to UIDAI.
  • Rules have been framed as per provisions of Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and Other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Act, 2016.
  • Chairperson of UIDAI will be selected on the recommendation of a search-cum-selection committee.

  • The Union Government has constituted a high-level committee headed by Chief Economic Adviser Arvind Subramanian to tackle the shortage of pulses in India.
