Udaipur in Rajasthan has reportedly become the first district in the country to have an all-woman police patrol wing (Lady Patrol). Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje today flagged off an innovative female patrol police initiative of the Udaipur police.
The public, especially young girls, women and the elderly, will feel more secure if they find women cops patrolling the city. They can walk up to them without hesitation and inform them about any awkward incidents such as eve-teasing or being subject to lewd comments.
The women, wearing uniforms in blue, are fully equipped with arms, security equipment, first aid and other amenities besides motorcycles for patrolling the city.

मुख्यमंत्री श्रीमती वसुन्धरा राजे ने गुरूवार को उदयपुर में जिला पुलिस की ओर से शुरू की गई अनूठी पहल ’महिला गश्ती दल’ का शुभारम्भ किया। श्रीमती राजे ने फतेहसागर पाल से सुरक्षा उपकरण, फ़र्स्ट एड बाॅक्स एवं अन्य संसाधनों से सुसज्जित 24 सदस्यीय महिला पुलिस के मोटरसाइकिल सवार गश्ती दल को हरी झण्डी दिखाकर रवाना किया। उन्होंने महिला गश्ती दल को बधाई और शुभकामनाएं दी। उन्होंने उदयपुर जिला पुलिस की इस पहल के लिए सराहना की। उन्होंने गश्ती दल की महिला सदस्यों से पेट्रोलिंग, हथियारों एवं अन्य उपकरणों के बारे में जानकारी ली और उनके साथ फोटो खिंचवाकर हौसला अफजाई की।
यह महिला गश्ती दल उदयपुर शहर में महिलाओं, छात्राओं, बच्चों तथा पर्यटकों के साथ होने वाले अपराधों की रोकथाम एवं तत्काल सहायता उपलब्ध कराने में प्रभावी भूमिका निभाएगा।
