  • Luke Aikins: 1st person to jump from 25,000 feet without a parachute

    • Then how did he do it? He did it  by successfully falling safely into the 100x100ft net in Simi Valley, southern California after the two-minute fall from aeroplane without a parachute or wing suit.

 

  • India will host 2016 Kabaddi World Cup.
  • International Kabaddi Federation (IKF) announced that India is going to host 2016 Kabaddi World Cup, scheduled to take place in October 2016.
  • Some important facts -Kabaddi:
    • Origin: India
    • National game of Bangladesh and called as Hadudu.
    • Kabaddi is the state game of Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Bihar, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Punjab
    • Similar to Kabaddi, chedugudu of Andhra Pradesh, sadugudu of Tamil Nadu and hututu of Maharashtra
    • Kabbadi: Not part of sports included in Olympics. However, it was included in 1936 Berlin Olympics.
    • International Team size: 7 members
    • Time: 40 minutes – 2 halves of 20 minutes each

    • Patna Pirates defeated Jaipur Pink Panthers to win 4th season of Pro Kabaddi League.
  • Union Railway Ministry has flagged off broad gage train service dubbed as ‘Tripura Sundari Express’ from Agartala (Tripura) to Delhi.
    • Further, the Railway Ministeralong with Bangladesh Railway Minister Mazibul Hoque, also laid the foundation stone of the Agartala-Akhaura International Rail link Project (India–Bangladesh Board Gauge Rail link Project).
  • Union Government constitutes DISHA agency to see timely implementation of Central Schemes
    • DISHA- District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DDCMC)
    • It will monitor the implementation of 28 schemes
    • Chairperson of the committee will be the senior most Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) elected from the district, nominated by the Union Ministry of Rural Development.
  • Helicopter money talks in NEWS as Bank of Japan runs out of options.
  • Condition in Japan: Prices of items are going down and  there has been two decades of deflationary pressure. Need to induce inflation(make prices of items go up).
  • Interest rate is near Zero and there is recession, so Bank of Japan has run out of options.
  • So what is done: Use of Helicopter Money is suggested.
  • What is helicopter money?
    • Milton Friedman coined the term ‘Helicopter Money’
    • In common language describes a situation where central banks distribute cash directly to individuals.
    • However in actual implementation, can be variation like, Giving tax rebate to all citizens and central bank paying taxes to government on behalf of citizens.
  • Buddhist remains unearthed in A.P.ghantasala
    • Where: Ghantasala, Krishna District in Andhara Pradesh
    • What: limestone pillars carved with half-lotus medallions, two limestone panels and a fragment of a Buddha image were also visible.
    • Belongs to: 3rd Century AD — i.e., Ikshwaku times.

 

  • Narsingh Yadav cleared of doping charges
  • The National Anti-Doping Agency’s disciplinary panel exonerated him of all charges, accepting the sabotage theory advanced by his legal team.
  • Asteroid Bennu
    • Bennu is a near-Earth asteroid that is coming towards our planet after being dislodged by a gravitational pull.
    • 1 in 2700 chance of hitting earth in 2135.
    • NASA is sending – OSIRIS-REx Mission – to study asteroid.
  • Sawai Madhopur Railway Station has won National Tourism Award for 2014-15 for the ‘best tourist-friendly railway station’.sawai-madhopur-railway-station-decoration
    • The station has been adorned with beautiful art depicting Ranthambore’s diverse fauna in its natural habitat, including colourfully rendered scrub jungles, banyan trees, leopards, bears, darters, tree-pies, and the fabled tigers
